Genuine Business Software Campaign
In 2006, the Genuine Business Software Campaign was launched. It was initiated by the Intellectual Property Department, the Customs and Excise Department and the Business Software Alliance with the aim of promoting respect for copyright in software asset and encouraging business software legalisation. The Campaign incorporated a number of activities that were rolled out in phases, including Business Software Certification Programme and Software Asset Management (SAM) Consultancy Programme, etc.
Business Software Certification Programme
Under the Campaign, Business Software Certification Programme was held from October 2006 to March 2007 with a view to further enhance the awareness of SAM. During the programme, 30,000 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) were approached and provided with information related to proper management of software assets and guidelines on software compliance. There were 160 organisations that completed a full free SAM audit, while 122 of those organisations were found in full compliance and received a certificate to recognise their participation. The programme has been completed. For related information, please refer to the programme leaflet. |

Software Asset Management Consultancy Programme
The Intellectual Property Department and the Business Software Alliance, in collaboration with seven business associations, launched the Software Asset Management Consultancy Programme in October 2007. Under the Programme, an expert SAM Contractor will be assigned to visit participating organisations to offer free SAM consulting service. Besides, SAM seminars and software vendor legalisation offers, etc. were provided to Hong Kong’s organisations, especially SMEs, to better manage their software and understand Hong Kong’s new provisions of the copyright laws concerning the criminal liability of directors and partners in relation to end-user software piracy so as to minimise their risk of liability. During the programme period from October 2007 to July 2008, over 50,000 organisations were approached and provided with SAM information. 648 organisations joined the programme and received a certificate of participation. The programme has been completed. For related information, please refer to the programme leaflet. |
