Internship with the Intellectual Property Department (IPD)

IPD's internship programme offers a valuable opportunity for local and non-local undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in law, science or engineering programmes to gain exposure in the field of intellectual property administration and protection, as well as patent examination-related work. The programme may be particularly beneficial to students who already have some knowledge in intellectual property.

Applications for internship can be made directly to the Internship Coordinator of IPD via email at enquiry@ipd.gov.hk. Please (i) provide your curriculum vitae, (ii) state whether you intend to apply for a legal internship or a patent practice internship, and (iii) state your proposed internship period (in entire calendar month(s), e.g. 1 June to 31 August; 1 August to 30 September, etc.).

Applications for internship in the summer should reach us by noon on 1 March of that year. Successful applicants would usually hear from us before 1 May.

The internship programme is a voluntary scheme. There is no employment relationship between IPD and the intern. An intern from outside Hong Kong will have to arrange for his/her own travel and accommodation, and to obtain a visa for training in Hong Kong (if applicable).
